Community Involvement

Community Involvement in Beamsville, ON

Dedication from the Start

Long before Ericway Tire opened its doors, Gerry and Eric Gilbert strongly believed in the value of Family Commitment, an Honest Day’s Work, and Community Involvement. It was a natural evolution, with Ericway Tire quickly providing the needed resources to step forward and become a Community Leader in Niagara West.

Our business experiences allow us to provide Our Family with a Good Lifestyle and enable us to give back to Our Community, Our Business, and Our Industry. It has been an honor to have been mentored by the most Respected Individuals in Our Community and Our Industry. Fresh off the Boat from Newfoundland at the age of 16, Steve Chayko of Glendale Tire in Toronto started teaching me life’s priorities and the order to which He felt was their importance: Family, Work, Community, Play!!!

On April 14, 1984 we opened Ericway Tire. I confess, if this was a dream come true, I have forgotten when I had it. Our personal goals in life have always been adjusted to make something else become our “Flavor of the Year.”

Just a few months after opening Ericway Tire, a longtime Community Member, Mr Joe Romagnoli, asked me to join the Beamsville Lions Club. I was an active member for 17 years, and have been a Member-At-Large these past 13, helping when I can.

This was Our humble beginnings, and I am very proud to have an opportunity to provide you with what I believe have been significant highlights, providing us with the experience to serve and respect our Clients and the Community.

Community Involvement Timeline

1984 to Present---Beamsville Lions Club
During this time as a Lion, I served many Chairs, Fundraising, Membership and the all important Tail Twister’s Job.

1985 to Present---Chamber of Commerce
In 1985, I joined a group of local business leaders committed to rebirthing the local, inactive Chamber of Commerce. I became a Director and Chaired many Committees, including Vice President and President 1990-91. I returned as a Director in 1997 and again was very proud to be elected President in 1999-2000.

As a Chamber Member, I Chaired Our Annual Golf Tournament Team on three occasions and was given the opportunity to establish LAFFT (Lincoln Association for Fair Taxes) and The Niagara West Mayor’s Golf Classic (Lincoln, West Lincoln, and Grimsby).

Early 90's---Landowner Lobbying
In the early 90’s, when property value tax assessment became the brainchild of the province and passed, I organized a group of local business leaders and residents to lobby for the phase in this system. We won the battle on behalf of all landowners in the Town of Lincoln.
